Weather Delays and Closures
Given the uncertainty of our winter weather, I wanted to take some time to make sure you know what to expect for our weather delays and closures this school year. In order to make a determination for starting late or closing school, there are a few things that go into the decision. On mornings when the forecast is scheduled to be below-freezing temperatures we have staff that are driving the roads on the west and east side of the district. They are making determinations about ice on the roads or other hazardous conditions that may prevent buses or drivers from accessing the school safely. Student, staff, and family safety are our primary concerns. We also have daycare services starting at 6:30 in the morning so we want to make the determinations as early as possible for those staff and families to make other arrangements if needed. We will do our best to make the call before 6 a.m. and send out a message through School Messenger for buses on snow routes, a three-hour late start, or a full school closure.
This year we are moving to a three-hour late start. This is to give us the most time in the mornings to have temperatures warm up and allow roads to be de-iced and thaw out. It also allows us to not call a full snow day that we would have to make up at another time during the year. In the event of a three-hour late start, classes will start at 11:30 a.m. There will be no breakfast served on these days or daycare before school. The Jr/Sr high school will start immediately with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. 1st period will start at 12:05 p.m. Elementary will start at 11:30 a.m. with lunches happening on a schedule after the Jr/Sr high school is done.
If we do end up canceling the school day, all activities and events will most likely be canceled as well. Athletic practices will be weather dependent and will be communicated by coaches, rescheduled or canceled.
If we need to make a determination to send students home early from school due to weather, all activities and athletics will be canceled in the evening.
